Support U.S. Troops With DVDs
I don’t usually promote charities, although there are certainly quite a few worthy ones out there. Operation: DVD caught my eye, however, and seemed appropriate to mention here.
Operation: DVD collects both new and used DVDs to send to American troops serving in Iraq. As the website states, typical ways of passing the time off-duty such as baseball or softball are off limits due to snipers, bombs, mines, and other threats. Thus, DVDs are one of the more popular forms of entertainment by troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The goal for Operation: DVD is to collect one million DVDs to be used to establish a library that troops can borrow from. Any movies are accepted, although a focus on movies that inspire a sense of family and moral values are preferred. Even children’s movies can be used, which will be distributed to servicemen’s families.
For more information, check out the Operation: DVD website and check locally to see if any drop boxes are set up in your area. Money donations may also be made through the website.
