Three Flippin' Sweet Comedies On Blu-Ray

Blu-ray is getting a triple dose of comedy. You’re going to have to pretend to be normal after watching Little Miss Sunshine, Napoleon Dynamite and Office Space on Blu-ray February 3rd.

First, in Little Miss Sunshine, ride along with the Hoover family in high definition. Follow Olive’s (Abigail Breslin) dream of winning the Little Miss Sunshine pageant all while experiencing loads of family quirks and neuroses. Between her uncle Frank’s (Steve Carell) attempt at suicide, father Richard’s (Greg Kinnear) unsuccessful go at peddling his self-help technique, brother Dwayne’s (Paul Dano) vow of silence and grandfather Edwin’s (Alan Arkin) addiction to heroin, how could there be room in the VW bus for her mother Sheryl (Toni Collette) and herself?

Hopefully the Hoovers will make a pit stop in Preston, Idaho so you can pay Napoleon Dynamite a quick visit. As long as Napoleon (Jon Heder) gets his chapstick he can manage to deal with his brother Kip’s (Aaron Ruell)chat room obsession, his uncle Rico’s (Jon Gries) unwelcomed visit and help Pedro (Efren Ramirez) win the school election.

Finally, let’s head over to Initech for Office Space. With the economic troubles the country is dealing with now, what better way to tear down your cubicle walls, without literally doing so, than by watching this movie? Getting a good laugh out of Peter Gibbons’ (Ron Livingston) troubles is bound to make any that you have yourself disappear, even if only for a moment.

All three of these comedy classics are loaded with bonus features. The Little Miss Sunshine collection is the most basic of the three; it has a number of featurettes, deleted scenes and some commentary. Napoleon Dynamite has a similar, but much wider selection. The most intriguing element of the Office Space menu has to be the interactive elements. If I had to choose just one of the three based on bonus material alone? Gosh, it would have to be Napoleon Dynamite. What can I say? I’m a sucker for outtakes.

But, then again, I don’t have to choose just one of the three. The holidays will have passed by the time these discs hit stores, but maybe if I turn down the heat and bundle up in the apartment for a few weeks I can find the spare cash to buy all three for $34.99 each. I’d swap warmth for some good laughs any day.
