THR reports that TiVo has signed a deal with Hulu's subscription service, Hulu Plus, that will make it easier for TiVo customers to access Hulu content right on their televisions. To be clear: the article doesn't say whether TiVo customers will get access to Hulu Plus content as part of their TiVo service, or if they'll still have to fork over the $9.99 a month for the HP subscription. Either way, TiVo will let you its customers view that content through their TiVo DVR without having to use a computer as a middle-man. There's yet another "but" -- so far this perk will only be available to TiVo customers who have the pricier TiVo Premiere DVR systems. So that's good news if you're one of those people, but not as nice as if all the Hulu content was available in a similar fashion without having to fork over a monthly fee.
The announcement is just another step for both entities in trying to make themselves as widely accessible as possible. Hulu Plus will have similar functionality with video-game consoles, for example. Likewise, TiVo has made various earlier deals to allow their customers view content from Amazon, Netflix, and YouTube via their TiVo set-ups.
Anything that makes removes technological obstacles between me and the content I want to watch is a good thing, which is why Netflix Instant Watch has gotten regular usage in my household since they introduced it on the Xbox 360 a few years back. Of course, I don't have TiVo and don't plan to get a Hulu Plus membership, but still.
