Universal Warns You To Beware The Moon
It’s rare to see a making-of documentary as an independent release, separate from the movie it’s documenting the making of, so we’re probably in store for another edition of the John Landis classic, An American Werewolf in London coming to DVD soon. That’s because Universal Home Entertainment, the distributor behind the film, has also acquired the recent documentary “Beware the Moon – Remembering An American Werewolf in London”.
The news of the documentary acquisition comes from Bloody Disgusting. Apparently at this past weekend’s HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis it was announced that the Paul Davis documentary was about to become officially distributed by Universal, with paperwork being signed momentarily.
Written, directed, and hosted by newcomer Paul Davis, “Beware the Moon” documents the development of An American Werewolf from conception in 1969 to its eventual release in 1981, using interviews with those involved in making the movie and taking place at nine of the original locations used in Werewolf.
The idea that the documentary will be paired with the original horror film is pure speculation on my part, but I can’t imagine Universal will release “Beware the Moon” on its own. A two-disc release, with the original film and the documentary each on their own disc seems a lot more likely to me. More curious is whether the documentary will still get a theatrical release. According to IMDb, the film is still in production, with a 2008 release expected.
