Videogame Wizard Materializes on DVD
How do you know you’re truly an old-school videogamer? It’s not whether you remember the original “Legend of Zelda” or “Metroid” games or whether you had a Sega Master System. It’s all about whether you remember The Wizard.
The Wizard was the first movie to centralize a plot around videogames. Before there were video game adaptations, there was Fred Savage and Luke Edwards making their way across the country to participate in a video game tournament where the newest and hottest video game to date would debut: “Super Mario Brothers 3”! The duo are pursued by their older brother and father, played by ‘80s stables Christian Slater and Beau Bridges.
Thankfully this missing bit of ‘80s essentialism is finally coming to DVD on August 22nd. There’s no doubt the movie is a bit dated. I mean “Super Mario 3”? The Nintendo Glove? Still, I can’t wait to check this one out again. Check back for our review of The Wizard closer to its release.
