Warner Brings The Clique To DVD
We’ve been reporting a lot lately in our movie news section about studios optioning the rights to children’s novels and series. Not everyone is shooting for feature films with these options however. Warner Brothers has picked up the rights to the series “The Clique” with the intend of producing DVD releases from the tween-girl series.
The seven book series by Lisi Harrison is about a group of precocious twelve-year-old girls dealing with the highs and lows of junior high school. Not typical junior high, mind you, but one for privileged suburban princesses. Somehow this is popular though, no doubt followed by the same girls who idolize Paris Hilton and the Olsen twins. The series has sold over 4 million copies with 100 weeks on the New York Times best seller list. Oh well, at least these mindless twits are reading.
The first book in the series, “The Clique” will be the first to be adapted, with hope of a DVD release next year. An eighth book for the series hits bookshelves next week.
