Who Wants To See Southland Tales On DVD?
I know there hasn’t been any good word on Southland Tales, director Richard Kelly’s sophmore attempt at filmmaking. The movie was booed, went into an almost year-long editing process after a poor reception at Cannes, and then people still didn’t like it. After all the anticipation of the revised picture coming to theaters, and then a short release window, I almost feel like I have to see it, however, even if it is a train wreck.
Now Southland Tales is coming to DVD in March. As you might expect from a movie that has already probably had too much money spent on it (just how much did that all-star cast cost anyhow?), there isn’t a whole lot being put on the DVD release. You’ll find the featurette “USIDent TV: Surveilling the Southland” and an animated short, “This is the Way the World Ends.” That’s it.
Am I wrong for thinking the way I am? Should I just take everyone’s word for it and avoid Kelly’s second film the way I should have avoided his director’s cut of Donnie Darko? We’ll see if I come to my senses before the DVDs March 18th release date.
