Here Are The 4 Most Popular PC Games Right Now According To Steam
As a player in the gaming industry, it's important to have your finger on the pulse of what's popular, and Steam has you covered. If there's a game that everyone's playing, you'll want to know about it so you can give it a try too.
The below statistics are taken right from Steam's own statistics page, which updates every 48 hours. You can see the chart below of the current player stats on Steam, which shows current users on the platform and peak users. Another website, called Steam Charts, shows the number of users that are currently in-game.
According to Steam's statistics on Steam Charts, here are the four most popular PC games on Steam right now.
Dota 2
Dota 2 was released back in 2013 and not only has a huge following of players, but also a reputation for a pretty nasty community. But Dota 2 is one of those games that's widely known on Steam. In Dota 2, a free-to-play MOBA, players get into teams of two to five players and go against each other in matches, one team must destroy the other's "Ancient" building in order to win. The competition is fierce and players really don't mess around when it comes to Dota 2.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Counter-Strike Global Offensive is a first-person shooter that pits players against each other in a number of different game modes, one of my favorites being Gun Game. In Gun Game, each player spawns at the beginning of the game usually with a random weapon, something like a handgun. And then, the better your kill streak, the better your weapon and once you've reached the end of the list of weapons, you're usually given a knife, which is arguably the hardest weapon to use to get a kill if you're not used to using a melee weapon. I can usually spend hours playing the Gun Game mode. It's no surprise that Counter-Strike has been at the top of Steam charts for years and has in intention of backing down anytime soon.

Team Fortress 2
This is definitely one game I'm not surprised to see in the top four. Team Fortress 2 has been a Valve game dominating Steam for quite some time. It's maybe one of the most popular games on Steam with such a dedicated fan base. After the game went free-to-play, a lot of players left because many other younger kids started playing due to the lower price tag. Team Fortress 2 has over 45,000 current players and an all-time peak of over 72,000 players at once.
ARK: Survival Evolved
ARK: Survival Evolved was released on Steam Early access and has since proven to be overwhelmingly popular within the Steam community. The PS4 and Xbox release got delayed until later this year, so it's amazing to see it catch on so fast with the PC gamers. ARK: Survival Evolved has almost 38,000 current players and a peak of 71,000 players.
It's no surprise that the top four games include classics like Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2. Those games have been topping the charts on Steam for years. But it's also no surprise that newer games like Rocket League have made their way onto the top 10. Rocket League, alongside has been seen as one of the most recent successful games, grossing over $50 million by the end of 2015. The game has been downloaded over eight million times.
