New Star Wars: The Old Republic Trailer Is The Most Heartbreaking Thing Since They Froze Han In Carbonite
Star Wars: The Old Republic is set to get a sizable batch of DLC in "Knights of the Eternal Throne" and, if this new trailer serves as an indicator, they're aiming to punch players right in the feels with this latest tale.
As far as trailers go, this latest offering for The Old Republic is certainly on the hefty side. Clocking in at just over six minutes, viewers are treated to a rather emotional story about a woman and her quest to save her child's life.
In the opening, we see the woman playing in a lovely park with the kiddo, who then demonstrates that she's got the Force coursing through her veins. It turns out the youngster is actually very powerful, something that doesn't typically prove to be a great thing for anybody in the Star Wars universe.
Once her powers turn dangerous, the mother sends her daughter in for training with what appear to be the Sith. A pretty trippy montage shows the young girl's transformation to badassary, at which point mommy goes on a quest to save her girl. At least I think that's what's going on. Outside of a bunch of shadowy figures, there's not a heck of a lot to build a background on here and I'm sure someone better in the know can correct me as to the finer points of the trailer's plot.
What matters is that there's a rad-as-hell fight sequence at the end of the clip that gives anything the Star Wars movies have to offer a run for their money.
But this is the Star Wars universe, remember, so we can't exactly end on a super happy note. Things go south with a quickness and, well, I'm not going to ruin it here. Let's just say that I'd pay good money to see this short story turned into a feature film.
Then again, I could also just play the tale, as this will presumably come into play in the Knights of the Eternal Throne DLC for The Old Republic. According to the announcement, players will be able to "face powerful factions, influence the galaxy for the light or dark side of the Force," as well as "decide who lives and dies" in this latest adventure from the Star Wars MMO.
