A Star Wars Battlefront 2 Ad Was Briefly Leaked Online, Here's What We Learned
Ahead of the April 15th reveal at the end of this week, the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 reveal trailer was leaked online. The ad was only 30 seconds long and EA was none too pleased with it being leaked. Nevertheless, we learned quite a bit about the game before the trailer was pulled offline.
Polygon did a rundown of the contents of the trailer, including talking about the new Tie Fighter protagonist whose role players will assume in the new single-player campaign mode. Much like the campaign mode in Pandemic's Star Wars: Battlefront 2 where players took on the role of the 501st "Vader's Fist", the upcoming game will focus on the Empire, and a squadron of Imperial troops fighting to avenge the death of the Emperor.
The trailer showcases several large scale space battles, indicating that a large portion of the game may center around space fights again. They don't, however, show any of the actual in-game play. They do, however, show plenty of in-engine cinematics, and the Frostbite looks as good as ever.
The cinematics also reveal another new corvette class star cruiser employed by the Empire. In the comment section they state that it's a raider class corvette, which is an interesting addition to the Star Wars spaceship line-up.
We don't get to see any new planets in any great detail, but we do get to see the Millennium Falcon making a comeback, along with AT-ATs, tauntauns, X-Wings, Tie Fighters and many of the standard troops we've come to know and love from the Star Wars: Battlefront series. YouTuber GameNewsOfficial managed to upload a version of the trailer following EA's takedown spree, so you might be able to see it below in case you missed it before, but don't expect it to last for long.
Near the end of the trailer we get to see some familiar faces, including Darth Maul, Yoda, Rey and Kylo Ren.
The trailer also reveals that, unlike the last entry, this time around Star Wars: Battlefront will take place across "all eras."

Now, for die hard Star Wars fans this instantly made them question what "all eras" refers to. We do see that there's obviously the Clone Wars with Yoda and Darth Maul, and we also see that the Galactic War between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire is also present during the age of the Death Star. Lastly, we get to see that there's progression into the era of the Last Jedi, and what takes place therein.
However, some fans are wondering if Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will also tackle the Old Republic, Sith Wars, or the Mandalorian Wars? The trailer appears to be a "what you see is what you get approach" to the "all eras" statement, so I doubt some of the lesser known eras will be included in the game.
They do note at the very end of the trailer that heroes from Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will make an appearance in the game as pre-order bonuses. So it looks like EA is going to stay abreast with content relative to the movie universe, something they failed to do the first time around when they rebooted Battlefront in 2015 and didn't include any content from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. We're likely going to learn a lot more about the game this upcoming weekend, when the trailer officially debuts on April 15th.
