South Park's New Game Has A Release Date
South Park: The Fractured But Whole has been missing from the media circles for quite some time after being delayed, but Ubisoft finally hammered down an official release date for the RPG based on the animated television series on cable TV.
According to a press release issued by Ubisoft, they revealed that South Park: The Fractured But Whole will officially release later this year, during the fall season on October 17th.
The game is scheduled to release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and on PC. Sadly no mention of the game releasing on the Nintendo Switch, which has seen a surprising number of people asking for games to be released on Switch, especially more mature themed titles like South Park. So far, mostly it's been indie studios and Japanese publishers who have committed to releasing games on the Switch, while other Western companies have taken a more reserved approach to releasing games on the Switch.
In the case of Ubisoft, they were big supporters of Nintendo's Wii and Wii U, but ended up getting burned on the Wii U with poor sales and attachment rates. They scaled back in their support of Nintendo ever since, but software attachment rates are looking quite strong for the Nintendo Switch; the system has already managed to outpace the Wii U in terms of sales trajectory, and the system is constantly staying sold out almost three months after release, as reported by Express.
So bringing a game like South Park: The Fractured But Whole to Nintendo's system might be a great way to go for further expanding the game's market reach and tapping into an audience who would love to play the game while on the go.
The story for the newest South Park game is a spoof on the super hero movie genre that has exploded since around 2008 or so, when Marvel used Iron Man to really dig their heels into the MCU. Matt Stone and Trey Parker decided to take the opportunity to poke fun at the structure of the super hero movie paradigm, and dissect the whole thing, from the marketing to the archetypes to the fandoms.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is like a deconstruction of the super hero genre and what makes it successful (or not) while also containing the trademark nihilism and crass humor that the South Park franchise is known for.

Just like in the other South Park: The Stick of Truth, players will take on the role of a new kid, and will be able to customize their character and their powers. Just like in traditional RPGs, players will also be able to unlock new abilities and skills throughout the game. You can see what some of those skills are like with the newest trailer below, which was posted up over on Ubisoft's YouTube channel.
One of the things that Ubisoft has also been doing with the game is promoting the multi-editions, especially the bonuses for those who pre-purchase the game instead of pre-ordering it. If you pre-purchase the standard, gold, steelbook or collector's edition of the game you'll automatically receive a free copy of South Park: The Stick of Truth for free.
Additionally, those who pre-order the game will receive a free in-game assistant in the form of Towelie, the chronically high towel from the TV series.
You can look for South Park: The Fractured But Whole to release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One just before Halloween on October 17th.
