Some PlayStation Plus Users Seem To Have Been Offered Free Netflix
If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, but you haven't checked out Netflix yet (or in a while), you might want to check your email. The streaming giant has started sending out three-month passes to Sony's faithful costumers. It doesn't appear this is for all Plus subscribers, though, so try not to be too disappointed if you didn't make the cut.
Over the weekend, quite a few folks started popping up on social media reporting they were the recipients of a special promotion being offered by Netflix. In short, PlayStation Plus subscribers are being offered three months of free access to Netflix. It also appears to work out for those who are already signed up.
The Netflix deal can be used as an extended trial for non-members, or it can be tacked onto the end of one's current subscription if you're already used to binging shows like Daredevil and the insanely good The Haunting of Hill House. With The Chilling Tales of Sabrina and the second season of Castlevania popping up on Oct. 26, now is certainly a good time to give Netflix a lengthy gander.
According to Push Square, this doesn't seem to be a universal promotion. While it's clear that this offer is being made through PlayStation Plus, there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason concerning who Netflix is sending the codes out to. Also, since we're in the middle of the month, this perhaps feels like questionable timing for such a promotion to be rolling out. Especially since Plus usually does all of its updates the first week of the month.
It's entirely possible a timing error was made, giving a bunch of people their invites earlier than planned. The rest of the codes could possibly roll out when November actually kicks off. Or, again, it's possible only a select number of Plus members got the invite.
As for the emails themselves, the subject lines reads: "A Netflix gift for you." The promotion notes that it is for "being a loyal PlayStation Plus member" and that the duration of the promotion is three months of gratis streaming. It also notes that you can claim the offer any time before November winds down, which adds a bit more speculative weight to the idea that the invites may have gone out to some folks earlier than intended.
If you got the email, all you have to do is plug your PlayStation account info into the site, though not your password or anything sketchy. You'll then receive a Netflix redemption code with information about how to put it to use.

This situation is a bit odd and, since neither Netflix nor Sony have made the promotion official with an announcement yet, we'd recommend holding off on offering up all of your information until additional details are revealed. The promotional email does appear to be coming from a legitimate Netflix source but, given the fact everyone has more than a month to actually take advantage of the offer, there's no harm in waiting a bit longer to make sure everything is on the up and up.
Speaking of PlayStation Plus, a rumored leak from earlier this month pegged Yakuza Kiwami and Bulletstorm as the November offerings for PlayStation 4. So maybe Sony is just having a bad time keeping a lid on things as of late. Stay tuned.
