Akaneiro: Demon Hunters Hits Kickstarter Goal

After a long, hard, challenging road, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters from American McGee and Spicy Horse Games has managed to hit its Kickstarter goal of $200,000 by going just over the limit at $204,680. It was a close call, a hair's shave away from disappointment and failure, but the team pulled it together, bunched up their gonads and squeezed tight to puff out a victory in the crowd-source arena.
American McGee, CEO of Spicy Horse Games commented about the game and just barely meeting their Kickstarter goal, saying...
"We spent most of the weekend on the Akaneiro launch and helping push the Kickstarter over the finish line, so we haven't had a chance to work out an exact roadmap yet, that's something we'll be looking at in the next few weeks""However, during the Kickstarter, we asked the players what they wanted and they decided: They want co-op and crafting now and Linux and tablet (iOS/Android) support as soon as possible. While we didn't make our stretch goal, we heard the 'don't forget us!' from Ouya supporters loud and clear."
This game on Ouya would be pretty kickbutt. With Linux support on the way and the current PC and Mac builds available for play, I imagine that Akaneiro could be a game with a long life ahead of it.
I like the idea that various games in various genres are being Kickstarted...we're seeing 4X space simulators, ARPGs, MMOs, open-world games, survival games, RPGs and everything else in between getting funded and it's just so freaking promising for the gaming community. The only drawback is that for now most of these games are relegated to PC, Linux and Mac. I can't wait until we start seeing more console-oriented Kickstarters come about, as that could be really interesting.
For now, you can learn more about Akaneiro or give the game a play-through by visiting the Official Website. The game, thanks to Kickstarter, will receive the additional support and development to branch out to more platforms and expand on the content.
