Nintendo is now airing a TV commercial for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The ad emphasizes the main gimmick of the game: the player has been elected mayor.
As mayor, the player can decide where to place shops and homes in their village. They can also build other important structures like police stations, bridges and street lights. The mayor can pass ordinances to change the behavior of their town. For example, they can make the shops stay open late at night.
The standard Animal Crossing elements are still there, too. Players have a wide range of customization options for their character and home. They can also wander outside the town to fish, dig up fossils and more. Players can also invite friends to visit their town and behold their creation. You can see some of the gameplay here.
New Leaf debuted in Japan last November. The game will hit North America and Europe on June 9th and 14th, respectively.
