When Ubisoft announced Assassin's Creed 3, they off-handedly mentioned that it would be released for the Wii U. Now, thanks to the latest issue of Nintendo Gamer, we know some additional information on that particular version.
According to Nintendo Gamer (via NintenGen), the Wii U tablet controller is your link to the Animus Database. Instead of popping up on your television, the Animus entries on historical places or people you encounter will be displayed on the controller's touchscreen. You can also freely browse other information in the database using the controller.
The touchscreen will be utilized in combat as well. You can quickly switch between, for example, dual-wielding and single wielding with a simple tap. This weapon-swapping sounds like a feature many Wii U action games will have; Vigil Games plans to include something like that in Darksiders 2.
Finally, the touchscreen can also be used for Eagle Vision. To inspect your environment with Eagle Vision, you can simply move your controller around. The accelerometer inside detects the movement and adjusts the camera accordingly on the touchscreen.
Assassin's Creed 3 is due on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in October. The Wii U version is currently undated because, well, so is the Wii U itself. Nintendo's expected to release the console this year, though.
