Ubisoft announced their Victorian Era game Assassin's Creed Syndicate today as expected. Syndicate will put players in the shoes of a very different hero.
Jacob Frye lives in London in the year 1868. The city is in the midst of the Industrial Revolution, with new inventions like the telegraph and locomotives now commonplace. However, Frye is concerned about the growing inequality between the rich and the poor. He says that the future is here but it "must be a future for everyone." He's planning his own revolution for the city along with his sister Evie.
"We shall rise. Street gangs will be our armies," Frye says in the trailer's voiceover. "The slums our fortress. They say this is the modern era. I say, it's time for a new birth. And we shall lead the way."
He's a born and raised Assassin but seems less concerned with secrecy than other heroes in the series. He describes his revolution as "a blaze from the ashes of an old brotherhood." In the first gameplay demo, he leads a gang in an all-out brawl on the streets of London.
The more modern era of Assassin's Creed Syndicate brings a challenge. People can no longer walk the streets with swords on their hips so Frye and other Assassins have to adapt. He wields smaller weapons that can be concealed. The first footage shows him using a kukri, a curved dagger, along with a revolver.
His most important tools, however, are concealed on his wrist. His wrist guard not only has the signature hidden blade of the Assassins but also a dart launcher. These darts are said to have a hallucinogenic poison in their tip. The wrist guard also contains a rope launcher that lets him quickly climb to the rooftops.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate will launch on October 23rd worldwide. The game is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. No word yet on whether there's going to be a separate PS3 and Xbox 360 version to accommodate fans on those older consoles like they did last year.
