Batman Vs. KillZone 2: Super-HD Comparison

Completely unlikely comparison, eh? Yes, I know. However, some readers began comparing them because of the amount of detail in the Batman: Arkham Asylum screenshots. In fact, while putting this comparison together, the 6400x3600 HD screens from KZ2 and Batman crashed the photo program several times. Yes, that’s how much HD these games are carrying.

Unfortunately, the 6400x3600 screens were too big to use in the comparison, so the shots were scaled down a bit. For the purposes of this comparison, on this page, the screens are in 640x480. However, at the bottom of the page you can view them in a much, much larger format. If you’re on dial-up, sorry to say but you might be here for a while loading the screenshots. By the way, the graphics for both games are the same for both the cinematics and the in-game play.

Surprisingly enough, I would have to give the edge to Batman: Arkham Asylum. While it seems like it wouldn’t stand a chance against KZ2, the game actually has extremely clear-cut texture work – in the large images you can actually see the vinyl layers in Batman's suit – and there’s no fuzzy gauze on the screen. Then again, I’m sure the haze is used for the benefit of KillZone’s war-torn atmosphere, so I guess I can be forgiving of that. One other quick observation, why does Batman look like Michael keaton?

Anyway, when it comes to the model design, however, Batman clearly shows signs of advancement. You can’t spot any polygons or even where the vertex points end (and these are the same models used during gameplay people). You can vote for the game that looks better below. I’m sure some of you will have a bias towards one over the other, but just so you know, Batman: Arkham Asylum is a multi-platform title.
