Developer DICE is aiming to deliver a total of 12-18 months of value for Battlefield 3, starting with the shooter's upcoming downloadable expansion, Close Quarters.
"We at DICE, we only focus on Battlefield. We make sure that if you’re a Battlefield player, there should be plenty of Battlefield for you to spend your days on. And again, we are focusing on giving you 12-18 months of value for Battlefield 3 and the expansion packs we’re releasing," CEO Patrick Bach told VG247.
"Depending on what happens, we’ll change things and add to it. We’re very keen on listening to the community and we read all the forums and posts, we make sure we implement any changes that need to be implemented and of course validate through data. We have a lot of statistics going on in Battlefield, so we know exactly what’s happening," continued Bach.
DICE currently has three expansion packs in the pipeline for their shooter. Following last December's release of Back to Karkand, 2012 will see a release for Close Quarters this June, while Armored Kill will follow during the fall. End Game is currently scheduled for a release towards the end of 2012.
Battlefield 3 released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC last October. An eighteen-month lifespan would mean that DICE is hoping you'll be playing until next April.
