Yesterday Infinity Ward announced the Xbox 360 release date for Modern Warfare 2's first map pack. Today DICE revealed that the second map pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will arrive on the exact same day.
Bad Company's VIP Map Pack 2, free for VIP members, will arrive on March 30th for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The pack allows you to play Laguna Presa in Rush mode and Arica Harbor in Conquest. To get VIP access for Bad Company 2, you need to purchase a new copy of the game and enter the voucher code inside the box. You'll have to pay $15 for a VIP code if you bought a used copy of BC2.
"We’re dedicated to taking care of this product for a long time – helping you avoid 'mapathy' without getting nickel-and-dimed," said executive producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson, taking a shot at MW2. IW had billed the upcoming MW2 Stimulus Package as a cure to "mapathy," an (obviously fictional) illness characterized by indifference to playing the same maps over and over.
Probably would've been a more effective insult had it not been preceded by this sentence: "There will be future paid downloadable content as well but these packs will focus on expanding other parts of the game experience rather than the selection of maps available for the basic game modes."
Oh, so you are going to charge for extra content - "nickel-and-diming" by your own defintiion. You'll just be doing it with content other than maps. Yes, clearly you've got the moral high ground here.
