Activision and Hasbro are teaming up to create a Battleship video game. The game will provide an all-new story that runs parallel to the events of the upcoming film.
In Battleship, an alien force has touched down near Hawaii. It falls to the U.S. Navy to respond to this mysterious threat. Players take on the role of demolitions specialist Cole Mathis to fight alien forces on the Hawaiian islands.
The game's not just a first-person shooter, though. True to its name, Battleship will also let you command the U.S. Navy fleet. Players will switch back and forth between the battlefield and a Battle Command map. You'll direct carriers, submarines and the USS Missouri among other vessels. These ships are said to be upgradable as well.
The game's official website lists the North American release date as May 15th. That means it will hit stores right before the film's May 18th debut. Europe, meanwhile, will get the game in April.
Double Helix, developer of Silent Hill Homecoming, is handling the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Magic Pockets is preparing Wii, 3DS, and DS editions, which will be detailed at a later date.
