ModDB has opened up voting for their 12th Annual Mod of the Year Awards. For the next week, you can vote on which of the top 100 mods selected by the community will be crowned the best of 2013.
Choosing just one mod isn't an easy task. The top 100 is a list of imaginative, ambitious and exciting projects envisioned by fans who looked at their favorite game and saw they could be something more than they are. I'm not going to tell you how to vote but I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you about a few of the mods on the list that caught our eye this year. Even if you don't vote for them, you shoudl check them out.
We could be waiting years for Fallout 4. In the meantime, Project Brazil can keep us company. This Fallout: New Vegas mod provides a brand-new, prequel campaign centered around a resident of Vault 18. The player character heads to the ruins of Los Angeles and along the way runs afoul of many factions, including the Super Mutants and New California Republic. The campaign fits into the wider Fallout story as well, giving us (non-canon) insight into why the NCR made their push into the Mojave in New Vegas.
Torchlight 2 SynergiesMOD
SynergiesMOD is the sort of mod that puts paid DLC to shame. It doesn't just add a few quests to the game. The mod launched with 28 new dungeons, over a hundred enemies and a Necromancer class. Since then, Synergies' creators have continued to heap on more content, including Paladin and Warlock classes. Not bad for a completely free mod.

What if Stannis had taken King's Landing? What if Ned Stark had done it? You can explore all of your Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire alternative history theories with this mod to the epic strategy game. Players will battle other kingdoms of Westeros for control of the Iron Throne. The mod also introduces new features to the game, including leader duels and combat pets. It's the best way to visit Westeros while we wait for the next season of the show or the next novel.
Nihilum brings Deus Ex players back to Hong Kong as nano-augmented agent Mad Ingram. They'll battle an international terrorist threat over the course of 7-13 hours of new content. The creators recorded over 2,200 lines of dialogue and 80 music tracks for the adventure. Players will get their hands on new hardware such as a Walther P99 pistol and an EMP Gauss Gun. Again, this is the sort of mod that makes you wonder why you're giving developers 10 bucks for an hour or two of gameplay.
Just Cause 2 Multiplayer
Just Cause 2 is pretty insane by itself, with the massive world, mid-air hijackings and grappling hooks. It's like Fast Five: The Game. Adding multiplayer support into the mix just makes it even crazier. You can race other players, battle for territory or just try to kill each other. This mod adds a new dimension to the game that the developers never even considered.
You've got about 6 more days to cast your vote for the Mod of the Year. The winner will join other breakthroughs like DayZ and The Stanley Parable in the site's Hall of Fame.
