Beyond: Two Souls Video Sees Ellen Page Take Out An Entire SWAT Unit
If you thought little 'ole Ellen Page wasn't big or bad enough to take down a group of heavily armed police enforcers, you thought wrong. While she lacks the muscles of Stallone and Schwarzenegger, she makes up for it with the help of an ethereal friend played by none other than you, the player.
Gametrailers was lucky enough to get in on a closed-session of Beyond: Two Souls at this year's GamesCom in Cologne, Germany. The conference from Quantic Dream focused on the sandbox gameplay elements for Beyond and how players could manipulate other actors or environmental objects to help progress the scene or the story. Check it out below.
Props to Gametrailers for nabbing such awesome footage. I was curious exactly how players would interact with the world and play the game, but it's now quite obvious.
While I have tons of praise for the graphics and visual effects, which look both engaging and mesmerizing, I think it's also time to talk a little bit about the downsides as well, specifically the AI. Wow is that AI atrocious. For the longest I thought the time had slowed down or completely stopped...yet, it didn't. The SWAT guys were all just kind of standing around while all that crazy stuff was happening, which seemed really odd.
Now, given that the game is in the early stages of development it could simply be that the AI wasn't being very active to accommodate the demonstration. It's entirely possible that on harder difficulty settings the SWAT move a bit quicker and react a bit better...or at least, we can hope.
The game itself -- if this is how it's played -- seems like a cross between Quantic's own Heavy Rain and the Sega Genesis classic, The Haunting. That's not a bad combination and I imagine that Beyond will pick up a nice little cult-following if it's as polished as it looks in the video.
Beyond stars Ellen Page and is scheduled to release in 2013 exclusively for the PlayStation 3. For more info feel free to visit the Official Website.
