Gearbox will be adding a sixth playable character to Borderlands 2 soon. At a SXSW Interactive panel, the company aired a teaser trailer that provides a glimpse at this new Vault Hunter.
"Deep beneath Pandora, an experiment has escaped," said the trailer. "Bandits beware, a new Vault Hunter is coming. More mayhem awaits."
The trailer didn't give us a clear look at the character. Based on the silhouette, he - or it - looks like some kind of monster. Regardless, the trailer does reveal one interesting detail about him: he's a melee character. Throughout the trailer, this mystery figure brutalizes enemies with his bare hands.
Borderlands 2 shipped with four playable characters. A later DLC pack added the Mechromancer, a pet class. A melee character would be a distinct and interesting addition to the team.
During the SXSW panel, Gearbox's Matt Armstrong said that we won't have to wait long for this new character. No specific release date was provided. Maybe they'll announce more details early next week.
