Bound By Flame Will Be 1080p On PS4, 20 Min Video Released
Spiders managed to get their name on the board of recognition with Mars: War Logs, the action-RPG that didn't really make waves but at least had gamers realizing that the mid-budget games hadn't completely gone extinct like politicians who practice fidelity.
The latest mid-budget game from Spiders is called Bound By Flame, and it's being published by Focus Home Interactive. The game has nearly 20 minutes of straight-through gameplay being showcased by the developer.
We get to see how the character handles combat, magic and a bit of the story. First off, the combat doesn't look all that great. Spiders had already previously made it known that the game was not going to be comparable to CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3, as noted on IGN.
The developers just came out and said...
I like that mentality. Straight-up honesty.
As I mentioned, the combat isn't anything special; if you've played any other generic medieval-fantasy action-RPG then you have an idea of what to expect from Bound By Flame. The animations are quite stilted by comparison to other titles and the combat flow isn't especially smooth. However, it aims to make up for the lack of finesse with the quantity of gameplay mechanics and options.
The story allows players to make choices and decisions that greatly affect the outcome. It's not simply an 'A' to 'B' story, as it's more like 'A' to 'D' with options that lead to 'B' and 'C'. And as we all know, any story is better when there's a lot to 'C'.

Even still, despite the generic nature of the game due to its lower budget (and I'm hoping a lower retail price to accompany it) the game will still make do with a standard practice that has become rote for many developers designing multiplatform games: the game on the PlayStation 4 will indeed run at 1080p native resolution.
This was confirmed in the IGN article and again in the video that comes courtesy of DealSpwn.
If this game were on the Xbox One, I suppose we would all have to question if it would sit at the little boy's table with the PS3 and Xbox 360 in full and gloriously decade-old 720p or if it would sit at the big boy's table with the PC and PS4, where the gloriousness of 1080p is all the rage? I guess we'll never know since Spiders got their Xbox One dev kits in late and, sadly, the game won't be appearing on Microsoft's new-gen console.
Bound by Flame is set for release sometime this summer for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and PC.
