Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Disney Infinity 2.0 Invade PlayStation This Week
It’s another packed week of releases on the PlayStation Network, starting with what is likely to be one of the biggest games of the year: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. For those of you who prefer to steer clear of gritty first-person shooters, you can also look forward to The Binding of Isaac, Disney Infinity 2.0 and more.
I know there are a lot of readers who instinctively groan when the words Call of Duty pop up on the screen but, let’s face it, the game only receives that sort of auto-hate because it’s become such a massive franchise over the past decade. And no matter how many people roll their eyes when a new CoD hits the shelves, sales figures would argue that far more are instead running off to the virtual or physical marketplace to pick up their copy of the game.
The nice thing about the latest Call of Duty is the fact that it’s going to be a slight departure from more recent games in the series. We’ve been tackling modern warfare for a number of years now and, before that, war games tended to focus on WWI/WWII-era fighting exclusively. Advanced Warfare is continuing the trend into the future, taking place in an era where the weaponry and gear are unlike anything we’ve seen in the series to date. This means that players will have to rethink how equipment will effect gameplay and, thanks to those spiffy boost suits, verticality and more involved platforming have become a much bigger focus.
If Sledgehammer pulls this off well, it could be a breath of fresh air for the series, forcing long-time players to rethink their tactics and get used to a completely different battlefield.
If, however, you prefer to avoid the FPS crowd, then there’s still plenty to get excited about on all three Sony consoles this week, including a little old and a little new.
First up is The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, arriving for the PlayStation 4 and Vita. As we announced last week, Rebirth is going to launch as a PlayStation Plus title so, if you’re a subscriber, just go ahead and download that bad boy when it becomes available Tuesday afternoon.
A few titles are jumping between platforms this week, starting with Frozen Synapse Prime, which is now going to be available on the PS3. Indie horror game Home makes its way to the Vita this week, alongside the second season of The Walking Dead. The Wolf Among Us will also complete its trip around the PlayStation bases, arriving on the Vita and PS4.
