The vehicular combat series Carmageddon may get a fourth installment. A teaser website, Carmageddon.com, has a countdown. Will a new game be announced when it expires?
Carmageddon is a racing game that encourages you to be an aggressive driver. You can win a race by out-driving your opponents, wrecking them, or killing all the pedestrians on the map. The violence was a bit tame by today's standards but caused quite a stir back then. Despite the controversy (or maybe because of it), SCI published two more games in the series, Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now and Carmageddon TDR 2000.
SCI, if you're not aware, ultimately became Eidos PLC. They were in turn bought by Square Enix in 2009. Square Enix is presumably the publisher on this game, then. Stainless Games, the developer of the first two games, is still around so I wonder if they were tapped for this.
The countdown on the teaser site ends on June 1st. That's about a week before E3 starts. I guess they want to get the news out there before the big E3 announcements start rolling in from Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and so on.
