Castle Story Hits Kickstarter Goal In Under 5 Hours
Sauropod Studio's Castle Story is a voxel-based, MineCraft-esque strategy-building game. The concept sees players in charge of little yellow dudes who have to build stuff up brick-by-brick and piece-by-piece and then deal with rock-creatures of the night who only care about tearing stuff down. The concept was so intriguing to players that they managed to fund the project in under five hours.
Technically, the game's presence on Kickstarter isn't the first time the gaming community has been introduced to Castle Story. A prototype of the game's concept had originally appeared in a few community YouTube videos that actually managed to pick up quite a bit of steam. By the time the game made it to Kickstarter gamers were already stoked enough to want to contribute to the project, enabling it to hit its goal and then some in under five hours. You can check out the gameplay footage and the way Castle Story is played in the Kickstarter video below.
The game takes on a more macrocosmic play-style than MineCraft, although the play mechanics are pretty much the same. Instead or relying on the brick-by-brick, individual building structure featured in MineCraft, Castle Story inspires players to build faster and more furiously to accomplish their goals. It makes me curious just how big and how much players will be able to build in Castle Story, because as we all know the sky is the limit in MineCraft...literally.
The team is currently aiming to get the game into a playable state and they'll need additional resources and tools to make it happen. I don't know about anyone else but the Unity Engine is sounding like a mighty delicious choice for this project right about now.
You can check out additional gameplay demonstration footage below. With just under a month to go before funding ends, you can continue to donate to the project if you want over at the Official Page, even though they're sitting at a very pretty $220,420 as of the publishing of this article.
