Before Crytek releases Crysis 3, they want fans to put the shooter's multiplayer through its paces. The open beta for the game will go live next week on all platforms.
In Crysis 3, players take on the role of a soldier wearing a state-of-the-art nanosuit. This suit gives them special abilities such as superhuman strength or invisibility. A new trailer, below, shows what the nanosuit is truly capable of.
The Crysis 3 beta allows players to try out the RPG-like mechanics of multiplayer. They can level up to rank 10 through online play. In the process, they'll earn weapons, attachments and suit modules to customize their character with.
Two game modes are available for testing. In Hunter mode, two permanently cloaked players must hunt 14 trooper players. Each player killed by the "hunters" will respawn as a hunter. The game ends when all of the troopers are dead or any of them escape.
Crash Site mode, meanwhile, is a "King of the Hill" experience. An Alien pod drops at a random point on the map and each team must try to capture and hold it. The team holding the pod will gain points over time. The pod defenders will have a CEPH "Pinger" and shields at their disposal.
The beta will include two maps from the full game. The first is set in the ruins of a museum and promises a lot of vertical gunfights. The second takes place in an airport that is now covered in vegetation. Presumably each map supports both modes in the beta.
The open beta will go live on January 29th on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
