Back in December, TimeSplitters developer Free Radical Design fired the bulk of its employees and revealed it was looking for a buyer. Seems they've found a sugar daddy: Crysis developer Crytek.
The Frankfurt-based Crytek announced the rumored acquisition today in an official press release. "We're very excited about this step to expand Crytek into the UK with such an experienced and highly talented team," said Crytek managing director Avni Yerli. "Free Radical Design is a great fit to Crytek and its culture, given that Free Radical has a proven track record on delivering high quality games. The combination of this team, the Crytek network and our CryENGINE technology will be a foundation for outstanding gaming experiences and a magnet for the best talent in the UK."
According to the release, Free Radical will now go by the moniker "Crytek UK." It's not clear whether they'll continue developing TimeSplitters 4 but if so, Crytek will no doubt ensure that it looks pretty and is unable to run on your computer.
