Darkest Dungeon's Release Trailer Is Gritty And Grim In The Best Way
Darkest Dungeon pays tribute with its story to all of the classic dungeon crawlers like Diablo and Gauntlet, except its artwork is a little more along the lines of a gritty comic book, which only adds to the fantastic horror atmosphere. To celebrate its official release today, check out a brand new trailer to get you hyped up.
The trailer showcases some of the unique gameplay with its very stylized art. Darkest Dungeon has actually been in Steam Early Access for over a year and is being developed and published by Red Hook Studios.
Darkest Dungeon doesn’t exactly have the kind of gameplay you would expect from a dungeon crawler—instead, it’s turn-based combat and side-scrolling. But don’t be discouraged by that note. With over 10,000 reviews on Steam, it’s already received a very positive rating.
There are 14 different hero classes to choose from, all with a massive variation of weapons and abilities. For example, the Bounty Hunter has the ability to throw a grapple hook, but he can also scout ahead and report back to the team if there’s any danger ahead. The abilities all feel very thought-out and distinct. It’s not just going to be your typical tank character, or a ranged weapon character, these classes will have a little bit of everything with their own inventive specialties.
Just from studying some gameplay videos that have already been released, I might have to go pick it up myself. Right now, Darkest Dungeon is 20% off on Steam—that’s 20% off the original game and the soundtrack edition. The original title is on sale for $19.99 and the soundtrack edition is $23.99. And just because I want you to experience the unique gameplay yourself, just to prove it’s really not as bad as it sounds, check out the gameplay video below.
