Next week 2K Games will release a demo for The Darkness II, the follow-up to the 2007 first-person shooter. However, at first it will be exclusive to Xbox Live. Also, you'll need a Gold subscription to download it.
The Xbox Live Gold debut of the demo will occur on January 17th. Xbox Live Silver users will have to wait until January 24th. That's the same day that Steam users and North American PS3 owners will get their hands on it. The sampler will arrive on the European and Asia/Pacific PSN on the 25th.
No word on the specific contents of the demo. It's not hard to guess what it will entail, though. You'll no doubt get to try out a chunk of the campaign and kill a few people with your crazy demon arms.
The Darkness II takes place two years after the events of the first game. Jackie Estacado, a hitman inhabited by an evil force known as the Darkness, is now the head of the Franchetti crime family. The Darkness is as dangerous to him as it is to other people, though, and he's trying desperately to keep it suppressed. However, a mob war breaks out and he's forced to wield these frightening powers once again.
The full version of Darkness II will arrive on February 7th in North America. The European launch is scheduled for the 10th.
