Capcom revealed today that they're reviving the dormant Darkstalkers series. Darkstalkers Resurrection, a combined remake of Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3, is in development for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Resurrection spruces up each of the old games with HD graphics. Other modern features include online play, Spectator Mode, and replay sharing. Achievements, a Challenge mode and unlockable vault of extras will give players a steady flow of challenges.
The online play is GGPO-enabled, much like Marvel Vs. Capcom. GGPO is a middleware designed to eliminate latency - a worthy cause in fighting games, which require split-second reactions from players. Furthermore, Resurrection players will be able to filter prospective opponents based on region and ping.
Capcom plans to release Resurrection in early 2013 through PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. It'll set you back $14.99.
It's been years and years since the release of Darkstalkers 3, the last brand-new game in the series. Capcom hasn't announced Darkstalkers 4 yet but Capcom producer Derek Neal told Joystiq at New York Comic Con that this is the "first step" toward that. Capcom will gauge gamer interest in Resurrection and determine whether D4 is a worthy pursuit.
