For Diablo 3's console debut, Blizzard is rethinking many key features of the action RPG. The development team discusses some of the changes they've made to cater to PlayStation gamers.
The inventory system has been remade from the ground up on both the PS3 and PS4. The radial layout is more suitable for controller navigation. You can see more screenshots of the UI here. Blizzard says that players will be able to equip new items with the D-Pad without opening their inventory.
The console version doesn't require you to click to move. Instead, you're directly controlling your character with the left analog stick. You can dodge enemy attacks by flicking the right analog. This dodge move, a console exclusive, was added by Blizzard to meet the expectations of players on those platforms.
If you're playing on PS4, you can expect a few other features. The front touchpad of the DualShock 4 can be used for inventory control. The "Share" button, meanwhile, will let you stream gameplay footage online.
One of the biggest features of the PS4 and PS3 versions are mentioned only in passing: offline play. The console D3 supports local co-op. You won't need to log into Blizzard's servers to play, which was one of the most annoying aspects of the PC version.
D3 is currently available for pre-order. Pre-ordering the game will unlock an in-game item called the Infernal Helm.
