Blizzard won't be able to get Diablo III to stores this year, after all. Today they announced that they've announced an early 2012 launch window for the action RPG.
"With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players."
"Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers."
The closed beta test for Diablo III, which allows players to try out part of the campaign's Act I, began on September 20th. The delay to the game means that testing will be extended. Blizzard says they might potentially add more testers than they expected, too.
Anyone with a Battle.net account with a Blizzard game attached to it is eligible for the beta. Make sure that your account is set up to let you opt into betas. Beta keys will also be given out through promotions on various websites. Blizzard wants testers with a variety of system specs so even if you don't have the fanciest rig, you've got a chance at getting in.
