Today NIS America confirmed a release date for their strategy RPG Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness. Brighter Darkness will be available exclusively on the PS3 in early October.
Disgaea D2 is set after the events of the first game in the series. Laharl has become the Overlord of the Netherworld but still has to assert his control over the realm. Along with his allies Etna and Flonne, he'll have to battle a group of rebels who aren't happy about his ascendance. One of these rebels is Sicily, who claims to be Laharl's sister.
Nippon Ichi has updated the turn-based strategy of the series with new features. For example, the Magichange system has been replaced by Mounting. Humanoid characters can mount monsters in order to become one unit with special abilities. The rider can dismount at any time to turn them back into separately controlled characters.
Characters can also benefit from each other through the master and pupil system. The pupil learns weapon proficiencies and skills from their master. The master, meanwhile, earns stat bonuses over time.
"We’ve got all these things, plus old favorites like the Item World and the Dark Assembly, where you can create characters and bribe your way to having the best of the best!" said NIS America's David Alonzo. "Character creation in the Dark Assembly has also been improved so that now you can choose between three personalities for each character, which determines that character’s Evility, as well as their dialogue both in and out of battle."
Other new additions include the Male Angel and Sea Angel classes. The Cheat Shop allows players to change the amount of gold and experience they get, as well as alter the level cap.
Disgaea D2 will launch in Europe on September 27th in North America on October 8th. For the first 30 days after launch, players will be able to download DLC costumes for Laharl, Etna and Flonne for free through PlayStation Store.
