Duke Nukem Forever's long and troubled journey is over. DNF was released overseas on June 10th and debuted in North America today.
"The most worthy of challenges bring with them the opportunity for all of us to test our faith and to believe in miracles," said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. "The arrival of Duke Nukem Forever proves that miracles do happen."
DNF was first announced way back in 1997. 3D Realms worked on the game until 2009, when they were forced to lay off the development team due to lack of funding. Some of the laid-off employees kept the project alive, however. They formed an independent developer called Triptych Games which worked with Gearbox Software to finish the game.
The game takes place 12 years after predecessor Duke Nukem 3D. Ladies' man and alien killer Duke Nukem has become a global icon. However, his cushy lifestyle is disrupted by the return of the aliens. He sets out to stop the invasion and rescue a few babes in the process.
