Sony opened up their E3 2014 press conference with a look at Bungie's "shared-world" shooter Destiny. Sony is partnering with Bungie to bring PS4 gamers an exclusive first look at the game as well as a special hardware bundle.
The PS4 exclusive alpha test will begin on Thursday, June 12th and run through the weekend. You can enter for a chance at playing this test by signing up at GreatnessAwaits.com. Be warned that everyone else with a PS4 is probably trying to do the same thing right now, though. The website's getting overwhelmed, not unlike what happened with the Battlefield: Hardline beta sign-up page. You'll have to register by the 11th for consideration.
It's unclear whether the alpha test will have a non-disclosure agreement. It probably won't matter because someone's bound to leak gameplay footage from it anyway. The NDA will just determine how much footage is floating around the Internet after the test.
If you don't get into the alpha test, you won't have to wait too long for the beta. Sony said that it will launch on the PS4 on July 17th. As previously announced, you can secure access to the beta by pre-ordering the game.
To further drive home their faith in Destiny, Sony will be bundling the game with a 500 GB white PS4 model - the first time this color has been available outside of third-party mods. This bundle will also come with a white DualShock 4 controller and a 30-day trial for PlayStation Plus. No price was announced yet. The white PS4 will launch alongside Destiny on September 9th for Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Sony supplemented the news with a new Destiny trailer. The video gives an overview of the plot. Mankind is on the brink of destruction following an attack by alien forces. The players are human warriors who go on the offensive, reclaiming humanity's former colonies from the invaders.
The second-half of the video is heavy on gameplay. We get to see these commandos zoom across alien worlds on various vehicles and unleash hell on aliens. Good stuff:
