Geomerics has announced that the Enlighten lighting engine toolset is now currently available as an SDK for aspiring developers for Microsoft's recently announced Xbox One. Following shortly on the heels of the official unveil that took place earlier today, Geomerics made it known that their next-gen toolset will support all the top next-gen consoles.
In an interview last year, Geomerics' Dr. Chris Doran stated that it would be possible to achieve similar fidelity to what was seen in James Cameron's Avatar movie using a few lighting and design tricks. Well, it's no longer a matter of debating about the possibility on forum boards and internet chat rooms, it's time to see if it's actually possible now that the next generation of home entertainment consoles are ready to arrive starting this holiday season.
Geomerics’ founder Dr. Chris Doran commented about the partnership, saying...
This follows on the news that Geomerics is also supplying toolkits for developers working on Sony's PlayStation 4 as well. The Enlighten engine was also full front and center in DICE's 17 minute Frostbite 3 technical demonstration for Battlefield 4, proving that they can definitely handle playing in the big leagues.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Geomerics and the Enlighten Engine will be full front and center during many of the AAA titles released for next-generation consoles this holiday season. You can learn more about the toolset by paying a visit to the official website.
