It seems that there's a handheld Epic Mickey in development. The upcoming issue of Nintendo Power will give gamers their first glimpse at Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion for the 3DS.
Earlier this week, Junction Point Studios announced Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. In the game, Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Rabbit return to the twisted Wasteland to fix some new problem. Mickey can manipulate the environment using a paintbrush and thinner, while Oswald controls electricity with a remote control. The two-player co-op game is billed as a musical, with characters breaking out into song throughout the journey.
I imagine Illusion will be a very different experience than Power of Two, if only because the capabilities of the 3DS are so different from consoles. The fact that they gave the two games completely different names is telling as well. Either way, the core experience - Mickey and Oswald working together - will probably remain intact across both games.
Illusion isn't being handled by Junction Point. Instead, development duties will be handled by DreamRift. They're the company responsible for Monster Tale, the virtual pet and platformer game released for the DS last March. Illusion will be their first project for the 3DS.
Power of Two is due this fall. Presumably that's when we can expect Illusion to drop as well. The cover of the Nintendo Power issue featuring both games is below, courtesy of NWR.
