Lionhead Studios is apparently working on a hack-and-slash spin-off of Fable for Xbox Live Arcade. A new listing on the Xbox.com provided the first details and screenshots on this new co-op game, entitle Fable Heroes.
"Fable Heroes is a fresh spin on the beloved Fable franchise in which up to 4 players play both cooperatively and competitively in this hack-and-slash adventure," reads the listing. "Work together as heroes of Albion to defeat familiar foes and new enemies while collecting as many gold coins as possible to unlock upgrades, characters, and items in both this game and Fable: The Journey for Kinect for Xbox 360."
Xbox.com also notes that the game will support both online and offline co-op. It'll track your accomplishments via leaderboards.
The screenshots show a game a lot more cartoony than the main Fable series. Presumably the simulation aspects of the game have been trimmed off in favor of pure action. Makes sense, as the world's probably not ready for four-player co-op baby-making.
No word on when Heroes will be released. If it's meant to be a tie-in for Journey, though, I'd imagine they'll be released in close proximity. Journey is slated for release sometime this year.
