QuakeCon 2014 will be a celebration of games from id Software and parent Bethesda. However, the newly released schedule from the convention confirms that Fallout 4 won't be one of those games.
Fallout 4 was one of the no-shows at this year's E3. Bethesda vice president of public relations said in late May that they won't be talking about their next game for a long time. When he said "long time," he apparently meant longer than two months.
QuakeCon 2014 will, however, see some big news. Doom 4 will be fully revealed for the first time. We've seen nothing from that game aside from a cinematic trailer. It's tough to stay excited for a sequel after such a long wait but still, I'm looking forward to the reveal.
Other Bethesda-published games will make an appearance at the convention as well. Survival horror game The Evil Within, MMORPG Elder Scrolls Online, and multiplayer action game BattleCry will all be playable at the convention. Attendees can actually participate in tournaments for BattleCry and ESO.
Speaking of Elder Scrolls Online, the MMORPG will be the subject of a Friday panel. The development team at ZeniMax Online Studios will discuss their future plans for the game, including the Xbox One and PS4 versions. The first 3,000 gamers to show up to the panel will get free copies of the game.
Gamers at home will be able to keep up with all the news from the convention through Twitch. The panels will be broadcast on Twitch.tv/Bethesda and the tournaments will air on Twitch.tv/QuakeCon.
With Fallout 4 skipping QuakeCon 2014, I guess the rumor-mongers will start hyping a GamesCom reveal. In truth, though, Bethesda doesn't need to attach their announcement to any wider event. There's enough hype around Fallout 4 at this point that they could announce it in a Maryland diner on 5 AM on a Sunday morning and still get everyone's attention.
