Final Fantasy XIII: Real-Time Battle Trailer
As the headline suggests, this trailer is of real-time gameplay footage containing a little box hopping and some bad-guy stomping. For those of you who have never seen the Final Fantasy XIII battle sequences, I’m not sure if this video will make you go wobbly in the knees with joy but it does show some good progress for the series.
One of the biggest multiplatform games scheduled to come out for this generation is Square’s Final Fantasy XIII. The game has a perpetual cinematic feel to it and great thematic aesthetics. The art-style is very similar to the Advent Children look from Final Fantasy VII and the main character has been totted as being a female version of Cloud.
As you’ll see in the following Japanese trailer, provided by GameTrailers, the game has some good battle music and some semi-intense battles. The pacing is a little slow and the camera sometimes make it hard to see what’s going on, but the new combo mechanic adds an extra layer of cinematic “umph” to the overall battles and the active combat keeps things moving along. Hopefully they’ll tighten up the fighting to better reflect the more fast-paced battles from the earlier demo movies and possibly hew some better camera work while everyone is standing around.
