Square Enix will relaunch their MMO Final Fantasy XIV at the end of the summer. The revamped version of the troubled game will be available on August 27th on the PS3 and PC.
Final Fantasy XIV's launch was marred by bugs. Many critics believed that the release build was largely unfinished. FFXIV: A Realm Reborn aims to fix many of the issues with the game. For example, the user interface was completely reworked and players will have more PvE and PvP content at their fingertips.
Realm Reborn also features a revised game world rendered with a new graphics engine. This massive transformation was explained through an in-game event. The world was all but wiped out by the meteor Dalamud.
This relaunch will mark the first time PS3 gamers have been able to play FFXIV. Square Enix decided to delay the PS3 version of FFXIV indefinitely due to the issues with the PC version. The third phase of Realm Reborn's beta, beginning soon, will allow PS3 players to finally gets some hands-on time.
By pre-ordering Realm Reborn, players can get access to the retail version of the game before August 27th. They'll also get a Cait Sith pet based on the character from FF7 and a moogle-themed hat.
In addition to announcing the release date for FFXIV, Square Enix also released a new "Tour of Eorzea" trailer. You can check it out above.
