Microsoft revealed today that Forza Motorsport 6 is on the way. The new chapter of the racing series is coming exclusively to Xbox One.
The game was announced at the North American International Auto Show alongside the new Ford GT 2015. The GT 2015 is the cover vehicle for Forza Motorsport 6 and featured in the first teaser trailer:
You can take a closer look at the GT 2015 in the image gallery at the end of the article.
Microsoft also confirmed two other vehicles for Forza 6: the Shelby GT350 Mustang and F-150 Raptor. Both were also unveiled by Ford at the Auto Show. They didn't have renders of those vehicles on-hand, but here are photos from the show floor:
“Just as Ford has pushed the boundaries of car technology in GT, Forza Motorsport 6 will embrace that spirit of innovation as our most technically advanced racing simulation to date, offering a fun and realistic automotive experience for both car lovers and gamers,” said Dan Greenawalt, creative director at Turn 10 Studios, on Xbox Wire.
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a while until we see actual gameplay footage from Forza 6. Greenawalt says that the official unveiling will happen at E3 2015.
No release date was mentioned today. However, it's possible we could see Forza 6 this year. Numbered entries in the series have always been spaced two years apart. Forza 5 launched in 2013 alongside the Xbox One. Reviews for F5 were strong enough that I doubt Microsoft wants to slow down their usual schedule with the franchise. Even the spin-off Forza Horizon games released in 2012 and 2014, which give the outward appearance of Microsoft "milking" the franchise to cynics, were well-received by fans. Forza is still a strong, highly regarded brand for Microsoft so they're going to make sure new sequels are being released like clockwork..

Today's announcement from Microsoft mentions that points out that this is the ten-year anniversary of Forza franchise. They say this year "will be the busiest and biggest in Forza history," which I'm not sure how to interpret. Is that just empty marketing bluster? Are they planning some kind of anniversary event, akin to HaloFest? Or do they have another Forza product to announce later this year?
