Frozen Synapse: Tactics Taking The Fight To PS3, Vita This Year
Soon, PC won’t be the only place you can get your fix of the strategic military action wrapped in crazy-retro graphics provided by Frozen Synapse. The hugely popular title is now being ported to the PlayStation 3 and Vita, and it’s due out sometime this year.
Double Eleven teamed up with Mode 7 to make the jump from PC to console, partnering to create Frozen Synapse: Tactics for Sony’s home and handheld consoles. Frozen Synapse first hit the scene back in 2011 and went on to sell more than 430,000 copies, which would explain why everyone in the gaming industry was talking about the little indie title that could a couple of years ago.
From what Double Eleven have described, the name change for the PS3/Vita versions of the game aren’t to signify that anything major about the core gameplay will be shifting. If anything, it’s probably just to let people know what type of game, exactly, they will be getting themselves into. But according to D11 COO Mark South, the game won’t be just a direct port, either.
“We don’t want to give too much away yet, but I will say that Frozen Synapse: Tactics is not simply a transition of the original onto console; we will be giving it a complete Double Eleven makeover,” South said. “Frozen Synapse, for us, represents some of the best work coming out of the UK and onto the PC. WE know there’s also a great console game in there as well, waiting to be realized.”
Again, no release date beyond “2013” has been announced, but at least we now know that those of us who do not typically game on the PC will finally have an alternate way to enjoy the strategic combat action of Frozen Synapse: Tactics sometime later this year.
