Rockstar Games is making the first major update to the GTA Online Creator tool. Players will now be able to build their own Capture Mode jobs for multiplayer.
Capture Mode debuted with Patch 1.08 of the game back in December. It's the closest thing that the game has to Capture the Flag. There are four subtypes, all of which are available to player builders:
- RAID - In Raid, you'll have to fight your way into your opponents’ base and steal a package, then deliver it back to your base to score points. Reach the target score, or deliver more packages than your opponents do in the allotted time to win the match.
- HOLD - When playing Hold, teams must collect and store as many packages as possible in their base. Packages can either be found on the map, or stolen from the opposing team’s bases. Reach the target score, or hold the most packages when the time runs out, to win.
- GTA - As the ubiquitous acronym might suggest, GTA mode tasks players with stealing target vehicles located all around the map, before bringing them back to their respective bases. Each team must fight to steal more vehicles in the allotted time than their opponents.
- CONTEND - In Contend, there's only one package, situated in the middle of the map. Teams must fight to bring this package back to their respective bases, and once the package is captured it respawns in the middle of the map and is up for grabs again.
The Content Creator allows players to construct a custom job anywhere in Los Santos or Blaine County and place props and power-ups in these locations. The custom jobs can then be shared with the community and then rated by other players. The best jobs are declared "Rockstar Verified" by the development team and then published across both platforms.
"As bonus for those in the community who jump in early to make the first Capture creation masterpieces this weekend - we're going to give four creators the opportunity to score a cool $GTA1,000,000 and the exclusive in-game CAPTURE license plate in the #CaptureWeekend Awards," Rockstar said today. Simply tag your creation with #CaptureWeekend to be considered for the prize.
Up until today, players could only make deathmatches and races with the toolset. In spite of that limitation, players created over a million jobs in the first month alone. The addition of Capture mode to the tool should cause another spike in the number of custom jobs available to players.
In preparation for today's update, Rockstar released patch 1.12 to fix many exploits and bugs in GTA Online. The patch also doubled the RP and cash rewards for Capture jobs. Those double gains were supposed to end today but have been extended through Sunday.
"To get the new update, just go online with your PS3 or Xbox 360 and GTAV - you'll be prompted to download an automatic update," the company said on Rockstar Newswire

The next item on Rockstar's agenda is the High Life update, which will add high-end equipment and apartments to the game. This spring the developers also plan to add cooperative heists, a much-requested feature, to GTA Online. None of this new content has been dated by Rockstar yet, though.
