People Can Fly and Epic Games have completed work on Gears of War: Judgment today. The prequel will arrive as planned in March exclusively on the Xbox 360.
Judgment takes place at the outset of the Human-Locust War, before the events of the original Gears of War trilogy. It stars Kilo Squad, led by Damon Baird. He'll be accompanied by newcomers Sofia Hendrik and Garron Paduk, as well as Gears fan favorite Cole Train. The team will try to stem the Locust invasion through any means necessary.
Like previous games in the series, Judgment also comes with a full set of multiplayer modes. Many of the old modes will make a return. The new additions include Free-for-All, which is exactly what it sounds like, and Overrun, a class-based mode inspired by DOTA.
Last week Epic announced a multiplayer demo for the game. This demo, launching days before the full game, will allow gamers to experience the Overrun mode. You can get early access by pre-ordering through GameStop.
This game represents a break from tradition. In addition to being the first Gears game outside of the normal trilogy, it's also the first game not developed solely by Epic Games. Instead, BulletStorm studio People Can Fly has been brought on as co-developer.
On the official Facebook page for Gears, a new photo (above) shows the developers celebrating the fact that the game is now gold. Cases of Sam Adams are visible so I assume that's a picture from Epic (based in North Carolina), not People Can Fly (based in Poland).
