Gears of War: Ultimate Edition PC Version Is Still Happening

About five months ago, it was announced that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition would be coming to PC sometime after its launch on Xbox One. Since things went relatively silent at The Coalition following that announcement, some folks were starting to suspect that the project had been quietly shifted to the back burner or, even worse, removed from the stove completely. According to a recent update on the game’s official forums, however, it looks like PC fans still have some shooting and chainsawing to look forward to.
During the PC Gaming Show hosted during E3 2015 in June, The Coalition head Rod Fergusson announced that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition would be making its way to the PC. It was announced that not only would the rebuilt version of the Xbox 360 classic be coming to PC, but it would also support 4K resolution and gameplay with a pad or mouse and keyboard.
After that initial announcement, though, not much has been said about the PC version of the game. The Xbox One version launched and was loved by fans and critics alike, but still no update on that PC version of Gears.
That all changed last week on the official forums. In a thread discussing whether or not the PC version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was canned, administrator TC PezRadar stepped in to set the record straight. Apparently there have been no new announcements simply because, at this moment, there is nothing new to announce.
We do not have any news to share at this time for the PC version. I know some are worried but please don’t fret. We are wanting to make sure polish and performance are prioritized on the PC version so that you all have a great experience. Once we have additional information, I can say you will be the first to know. I’m pretty stoked for the PC version myself as I am an avid PC gamer.
So it looks like that PC version is still happening, Gears fans, you just need to be a bit more patient. The game was rebuilt from the ground up for the Ultimate Edition, after all, so it isn’t like they just needed to polish up the graphics and roll it out. Ultimate also boasts enhanced multiplayer with a spectator mode and dedicated servers, as well as all of the DLC that launched following the release of the original game. The Xbox One version of the game came with unlocks for digital versions of the original series, but we’re not sure if that will be available for the PC crowd, too.
Either way, just hang tight and rest assured that the latest Gears is heading to PC…at some point.
