Guess Which Mortal Kombat X Sound Effects Were Made With A Plunger
It probably should come as no surprise that there are a lot of gross elements in Mortal Kombat X, namely the gore and mutilation that takes place. What you probably didn't expect was that some of those gory sound effects were made with... a plunger?

GameSpot did a quick write-up on the content, detailing how Mortal Kombat X's foley artists and engineers were given the spotlight during the latest live-stream session from NetherRealm Studios.
As outlined in the minute-long video, we get to see how some of the sound effects that accompany the cringe-worthy gore depicted in the upcoming fighting game came to be. In some cases, it's literally just a plunger in a bucket with some green goop.
It looks as if a lot of the “splush” noises were made with Nickelodeon-style slime. It makes sense given that most people associating green goop with any kind of sound would likely associate it with something gross, and that ties in quite well with the themes from Mortal Kombat X... especially when the x-rays, Brutalities and Fatalities are on display.
The GameSpot article also notes that NetherRealm uses more than just green goop to create those violent effects. They also rely on destroying vegetables, splattering food, and crushing nuts. That last one is my favorite.
The sound effects are just part of what brings the whole Mortal Kombat X experience to life. A lot of it boils down to the matching of visuals that consist of physical hits, swipes, slashes, bumps, pokes, smashes, and cuts.

We've seen plenty of videos -- Fatalities and fighter variations to get an idea of just how gruesome Mortal Kombat X can be. So, it's not surprising that a lot of those equally gruesome sound effects are made with... green slime... and a plunger.
Part of it looked like fun, moving your hands around in a puddle of goop all day. Another part of it seemed kind of tedius. And another part seemed kind of gross. I mean, was that a brand new plunger or did they pull that bad boy out of from behind the toilet? And did he actually touch the green goop before or after rubbing the plunger through it? Because... yeah... you wouldn't want to eat with those fingers.
Mortal Kombat X is really shaping up to be a blockbuster. It's surprising that we're getting this title in April, but it'll be followed up shortly there after with Batman: Arkham Knight in the summer. And, beyond that, we'll be prepping for Halo 5: Guardians. And then the holidays will be here. So, technically speaking, you could say that Mortal Kombat X is the big AAA lead-in to the majorly hyped titles set to release throughout the year.
You can look for the initial release of the game on April 14th, 2015 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC, followed up with an early summer release for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
