Yesterday Activision announced that they were shuttering their Guitar Hero business unit due to sagging sales. Today they confirmed that this isn't just simple reorganization - they're truly killing Guitar Hero and sister series DJ Hero for good.
"Over the past two years, we have seen rapid declines in the music genre, and unfortunately, based on current demand, we simply cannot continue to profitably make these games given the considerable licensing and manufacturing costs," reads a new FAQ on the DJ Hero website.
Previously released Hero games will still be sold and supported by customer service. You'll still be able to purchase downloadable content for the games, too. However, the production of new DLC will come to an end soon.
"We will release the previously announced DLC track and mix packs for February, but - unfortunately - we will not be able to release new DLC packs beyond what we already have," says the FAQ.
